शिवलिङ्ग के प्रतीक में संपूर्ण ब्रह्मांड की ऊर्जा, सृजन, संहार और करुणा समाहित है। आदि शंकराचार्य जी द्वारा रचित यह शिव लिङ्गाष्टकम् — भगवान शंकर की उस ज्योतिर्मयी शक्ति की स्तुति है, जो समस्त पापों का नाश कर, भक्त को मोक्ष और शिवत्व की ओर ले जाती है। इसकी प्रत्येक पंक्ति, श्रद्धा, भक्ति और आत्म-समर्पण की अमृतवाणी है।
जो लिङ्ग ब्रह्मा, विष्णु तथा समस्त देवताओं द्वारा पूजित है, जो अत्यंत निर्मल और दीप्तिमान है, और जो जन्मजन्य समस्त दुःखों का नाश करता है — उस सदा शिव स्वरूप लिङ्ग को मैं कोटिशः प्रणाम करता हूँ।
जो लिङ्ग देवताओं और श्रेष्ठ मुनियों द्वारा नित्य पूजित है, जो कामनाओं का दाह कर देने वाला और दयामयी शिव का स्वरूप है, और जिसने रावण के घमण्ड का विनाश किया — उस सदा शिव लिङ्ग को मैं श्रद्धा से प्रणाम करता हूँ।
जो लिङ्ग सभी दिव्य सुगंधित द्रव्यों से अर्चित है, जो बुद्धि-विवेक को बढ़ाने वाला है, और जिसे सिद्ध, देवता व असुर भी नमन करते हैं — उस पावन शिवलिङ्ग को मैं बारंबार प्रणाम करता हूँ।
जो लिङ्ग स्वर्ण और दिव्य रत्नों से अलंकृत है, नागराज से आवेष्टित होकर शोभायमान है, और जिसने दक्ष के यज्ञ का संहार किया — उस तेजस्वी शिवलिङ्ग को मैं श्रद्धा सहित प्रणाम करता हूँ।
जो लिङ्ग कुमकुम व चन्दन से अर्चित है, जो कमलमालाओं से सुशोभित है, और जो जन्मों-जन्मों के संचित पापों को नष्ट कर देता है — उस पुण्यप्रदायक सदा शिव लिङ्ग को मैं साष्टांग नमन करता हूँ।
देवगणार्चितसेवितलिङ्गं भावैर्भक्तिभिरेव च लिङ्गम् ।
जो लिङ्ग समस्त देवगणों द्वारा सेवित है, जो सच्चे भाव और निष्काम भक्ति से ही प्रसन्न होता है, और जो करोड़ों सूर्यों के समान तेजस्वी है — उस परमप्रभु शिवलिङ्ग को मैं करबद्ध होकर प्रणाम करता हूँ।
जो लिङ्ग अष्टदल कमलों से घिरा हुआ है, जो संपूर्ण सृष्टि का कारण है, और जो आठ प्रकार की दरिद्रताओं का नाशक है — उस सदा शिवलिङ्ग को मैं भक्ति भाव से प्रणाम करता हूँ।
जो लिङ्ग देवगुरु बृहस्पति तथा अन्य श्रेष्ठ देवताओं द्वारा पूजित है, जो स्वर्गिक पुष्पों से निरंतर अर्चित होता है, और जो परात्पर परमात्मा का प्रतीक है — उस दिव्य शिवलिङ्ग को मैं कोटि-कोटि प्रणाम करता हूँ।
लिङ्गाष्टकमिदं पुण्यं यः पठेत् शिवसन्निधौ ।
शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते ॥
जो भक्त शिव की उपस्थिति में इस पुण्यदायक लिङ्गाष्टक का श्रद्धापूर्वक पाठ करता है, वह शिवलोक को प्राप्त करता है और भगवान शिव के सान्निध्य में चिरकाल तक आनंदमग्न रहता है।

Composed by the revered Adi Shankaracharya, the Shiva Lingashtakam is a devotional hymn dedicated to the radiant and formless presence of Lord Shankara. According to Hindu spiritual tradition, its verses inspire the devotee towards purification, surrender, Moksha and the realisation of Shiva-consciousness. Every verse is filled with the nectar of faith, devotion and complete self-surrender.

I offer countless salutations to the sacred Lingam of Lord Sadashiva, which is worshipped by Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and all the celestial beings. It is pure, radiant and spiritually resplendent, and is traditionally revered as the destroyer of suffering arising from worldly birth and existence.

Ravana Darpa Vinashana Lingam Tat Pranamami Sadashiva Lingam॥2॥
I bow with devotion to the sacred Lingam of Lord Sadashiva, which is continually worshipped by the Devas and the greatest Sages. It represents the compassionate Lord who burns away uncontrolled desire and who humbled the pride of Ravana.
Siddha Surasura Vandita Lingam Tat Pranamami Sadashiva Lingam॥3॥
I repeatedly bow to the sacred Shiva Lingam, which is lovingly anointed with fragrant substances and is traditionally worshipped for the growth of wisdom and discernment. Siddhas, Devas and Asuras alike offer their reverence before this divine form of Lord Shiva.
Daksha Suyajna Vinashana Lingam Tat Pranamami Sadashiva Lingam॥4॥
I offer my reverent salutations to the radiant Lingam of Lord Sadashiva, adorned with gold and precious jewels and beautifully encircled by the king of serpents. It represents Lord Shiva, who brought an end to the prideful Yajna of Daksha.
Sanchita Papa Vinashana Lingam Tat Pranamami Sadashiva Lingam॥5॥
I bow with complete devotion to the sacred Lingam of Lord Sadashiva, anointed with Kumkum and sandalwood paste and beautifully adorned with garlands of lotus flowers. According to Hindu religious tradition, it is revered as the purifier of accumulated sins and past karmic burdens.

Dinakara Koti Prabhakara Lingam Tat Pranamami Sadashiva Lingam॥6॥

Ashta Daridra Vinashita Lingam Tat Pranamami Sadashiva Lingam॥7॥
I bow with deep devotion to the sacred Lingam of Lord Sadashiva, surrounded by the eight-petalled lotus and revered as the primordial source of the entire creation. According to traditional interpretation, it removes the eight forms of spiritual and material poverty.
Paratparam Paramatmaka Lingam Tat Pranamami Sadashiva Lingam॥8॥
I offer countless salutations to the divine Shiva Lingam, worshipped by Brihaspati, the Guru of the Devas, and by the foremost celestial beings. It is continually adorned with heavenly flowers and represents the Supreme Self, who is beyond even the highest reality.
According to the traditional Phalashruti, a devotee who recites this sacred Lingashtakam with faith in the presence of Lord Shiva is blessed with spiritual elevation and the grace of Mahadeva. The verse describes the devotee attaining Shivaloka and rejoicing eternally in the divine presence of Lord Shiva.
