श्री आदि शंकराचार्य द्वारा रचित यह निर्वाण षट्कम्, अद्वैत वेदांत का सार है — जहाँ साधक, आत्मा को न शरीर समझता है, न मन, न बुद्धि, न कर्म, न बंधन और न ही मोक्ष। वह केवल चेतना के रूप में स्वयं को अनुभव करता है, और कह उठता है — “मैं शिव हूँ, शिव ही हूँ।”
मनोबुद्ध्यहङ्कार चित्तानि नाहं न च श्रोत्रजिह्वे न च घ्राणनेत्रे ।
न च व्योम भूमिर्न तेजो न वायुः चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् ॥१॥
मैं न मन हूँ, न बुद्धि, न अहंकार, और न ही चित्त। न मैं श्रवण, जिह्वा, नेत्र या नासिका हूँ। न मैं आकाश हूँ, न पृथ्वी, न अग्नि और न ही वायु। मैं तो केवल शुद्ध चैतन्य और आनंदस्वरूप शिव हूँ — मैं शिव हूँ, मैं शिव ही हूँ।
न च प्राणसंज्ञो न वै पञ्चवायुः न वा सप्तधातुः न वा पञ्चकोशः ।
न वाक्पाणिपादं न चोपस्थपायु चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् ॥२॥
मैं न प्राण हूँ, न ही पाँच प्रकार की वायुएँ, न सप्त धातु हूँ और न ही पाँच शरीर कोशों में कोई हूँ। न मैं वाणी, हाथ, पैर, न जननेंद्रिय हूँ और न गुदा। मैं तो शुद्ध चेतना और आनंदमय शिव हूँ — मैं शिव हूँ, मैं शिव ही हूँ।
न मे द्वेषरागौ न मे लोभमोहौ मदो नैव मे नैव मात्सर्यभावः ।
न धर्मो न चार्थो न कामो न मोक्षः चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् ॥३॥
मुझमें न द्वेष है, न राग; न लोभ है, न मोह; न अहंकार है, न ही ईर्ष्या का कोई भाव। मैं न धर्म का आश्रित हूँ, न अर्थ का, न काम का और न ही मोक्ष का अभिलाषी। मैं केवल शुद्ध आनंदस्वरूप शिव हूँ — मैं शिव हूँ, मैं शिव ही हूँ।
न पुण्यं न पापं न सौख्यं न दुःखं न मन्त्रो न तीर्थं न वेदा न यज्ञाः ।
अहं भोजनं नैव भोज्यं न भोक्ता चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् ॥४॥
मैं न पुण्य हूँ, न पाप; न सुख हूँ, न दुःख। न मैं कोई मन्त्र हूँ, न तीर्थ, न वेद और न यज्ञ। मैं न भोजन कर रहा हूँ, न भोज्य वस्तु हूँ और न ही भोगने वाला हूँ। मैं तो केवल चैतन्य और शिवस्वरूप हूँ — मैं शिव हूँ, मैं शिव ही हूँ।
न मृत्युर्न शङ्का न मे जातिभेदः पिता नैव मे नैव माता न जन्मः ।
न बन्धुर्न मित्रं गुरुर्नैव शिष्यं चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् ॥५॥
मुझे मृत्यु का भय नहीं, न ही जाति का कोई भेद। न मेरा कोई पिता है, न माता और न ही मेरा कोई जन्म है। न मैं बंधु हूँ, न मित्र; न गुरु हूँ और न ही कोई शिष्य। मैं तो शाश्वत चैतन्यस्वरूप शिव हूँ — मैं शिव हूँ, मैं शिव ही हूँ।
अहं निर्विकल्पो निराकाररूपो विभुत्वाच्च सर्वत्र सर्वेन्द्रियाणाम् ।
न चासङ्गतं नैव मुक्तिर्न मेयः चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् ॥६॥
मैं विकल्पों से रहित हूँ, निराकार रूपधारी हूँ। मैं सम्पूर्ण सृष्टि में व्याप्त हूँ, समस्त इन्द्रियों में समाया हुआ हूँ। मुझमें न कोई आसक्ति है, न ही मुझे मुक्ति की आवश्यकता है। मैं तो केवल चिदानंदस्वरूप शिव हूँ — मैं शिव हूँ, मैं शिव ही हूँ।
Composed by the revered Adi Shankaracharya, the Nirvana Shatakam expresses the essence of Advaita Vedanta. In these sacred verses, the seeker recognises that the true Self is neither the body nor the mind, neither the intellect nor action, neither bondage nor even liberation. The Self is experienced as pure consciousness and divine bliss, giving rise to the profound realisation: “I am Shiva; I am indeed Shiva.”

Na Cha Vyoma Bhumir Na Tejo Na Vayuh Chidananda Rupah Shivo’ham Shivo’ham॥1॥
I am neither the mind nor the intellect, neither the ego nor the faculty of memory. I am neither the ears nor the tongue, neither the nose nor the eyes. I am neither space nor earth, neither fire nor air. My true nature is pure consciousness and divine bliss. I am Shiva; I am indeed Shiva.
Na Cha Pranasanjno Na Vai Panchavayuh Na Va Saptadhatur Na Va Panchakoshah.
Na Vak Pani Padam Na Chopastha Payuh Chidananda Rupah Shivo’ham Shivo’ham॥2॥
I am neither the vital life force nor the five forms of Prana. I am neither the seven bodily elements nor any of the five Koshas, the sheaths that appear to cover the Self. I am neither speech, hands nor feet, neither the organ of generation nor the organ of elimination. My true nature is pure consciousness and divine bliss. I am Shiva; I am indeed Shiva.
Na Me Dvesha Ragau Na Me Lobha Mohau Mado Naiva Me Naiva Matsarya Bhavah.
Na Dharmo Na Chartho Na Kamo Na Mokshah Chidananda Rupah Shivo’ham Shivo’ham॥3॥
There is neither hatred nor attachment within my true Self, neither greed nor delusion. I am untouched by pride and jealousy. I am beyond Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha—the four traditional aims of human life. My true nature is pure consciousness and divine bliss. I am Shiva; I am indeed Shiva.
Na Punyam Na Papam Na Saukhyam Na Duhkham Na Mantro Na Tirtham Na Veda Na Yajnah.
Na Bhojanam Naiva Bhojyam Na Bhokta Chidananda Rupah Shivo’ham Shivo’ham॥4॥
I am neither virtue nor sin, neither pleasure nor sorrow. I am neither a sacred mantra nor a place of pilgrimage, neither the Vedas nor a Yajna. I am neither the act of eating, nor the object being consumed, nor the one who consumes it. My true nature is pure consciousness and divine bliss. I am Shiva; I am indeed Shiva.
Na Mrityur Na Shanka Na Me Jati Bhedah Pita Naiva Me Naiva Mata Na Janma.
Na Bandhur Na Mitram Gurur Naiva Shishyam Chidananda Rupah Shivo’ham Shivo’ham॥5॥
I am beyond death and the fear of death, and no distinction of caste or birth belongs to my true nature. I have neither father nor mother, for the eternal Self is never born. I am neither relative nor friend, neither Guru nor disciple. My true nature is pure consciousness and divine bliss. I am Shiva; I am indeed Shiva.
Na Chasangatam Naiva Muktir Na Meyah Chidananda Rupah Shivo’ham Shivo’ham॥6॥
I am beyond all distinctions and possess no limited form. As the all-pervading consciousness, I am present everywhere and illuminate the functioning of all the senses. I am free from attachment, and because the true Self was never bound, it has no need to attain liberation. I cannot be confined as an object of knowledge. My true nature is pure consciousness and divine bliss. I am Shiva; I am indeed Shiva.
