भगवान शिव के तांडव रूप, भूतों के अधिपति भैरवस्वरूप और चिदानन्दघन रूप का भावमय स्तवन है — यह भूतनाथाष्टकम्। इसमें शिव की रौद्रता में छिपी करुणा, तांडव में समाहित ध्यान, और भस्मलेपित स्वरूप में प्रकाशित दिव्यता का अनोखा संगम है। इसका पाठ साधक को निर्भयता, भक्ति और ब्रह्मज्ञान की ओर ले जाता है।
शिव शिव शक्तिनाथं संहारं शं स्वरूपम् नव नव नित्यनृत्यं ताण्डवं तं तन्नादम् ।
मैं उस शिव की वंदना करता हूँ, जो शक्ति के अधिपति हैं, जो स्वयं कल्याणस्वरूप हैं, जो प्रतिपल नूतन तांडव नृत्य में लीन रहते हैं। जिनके नाद में घने काले तूफ़ान-से घोर मेघों की गूंज समाहित है। जो भस्म से अलंकृत हैं — उन भूतनाथ की मैं बारंबार भक्ति करता हूँ।
जो स्वयं कालरूप हैं, जिनका स्वरूप लहराते सागर की भाँति भयानक परंतु गहन है। जिनका डमरू ‘डम-डम’ की गूंज से ब्रह्मांड को नचाता है। जिनका गला शक्तिशाली है और जो समस्त भूतों के अधिपति तथा देवताओं के देव हैं — उन भस्मधारी भूतनाथ को मैं बारंबार प्रणाम करता हूँ।
जो श्रीराम के अनन्य भक्त हैं, जो राम नाम में लीन रहते हैं, जो अत्यंत उदार हैं, मुक्त हस्त से वर देते हैं, जिनका स्वभाव मधुर है। जो ब्रह्मस्वरूप हैं, बामदेव रूपधारी हैं और जगत के संहारकर्ता हैं — उन भस्मलेपित महेश्वर का मैं पुनः पुनः वंदन करता हूँ।
हर हर हरिप्रियं त्रितापं हं संहारम् खमखम क्षमाशीळं सपापं खं क्षमणम् ।
जो हरि के प्रिय हैं, जो तीनों प्रकार के तापों (आध्यात्मिक, आधिभौतिक, आधिदैविक) का संहार करते हैं। जो क्षमा के सागर हैं, जो पापियों को भी अपनाते हैं, जो ध्यानमूर्ति हैं और सगुण-साकार रूप से सबका पालन करते हैं — उन भस्मधारी शिव की मैं भक्ति करता हूँ।
जो समस्त पापों का नाश करते हैं, जो प्रज्वलित प्रकाशस्वरूप हैं। जो गूढ़ रहस्यमय तत्त्व हैं, गिरिश्वर हैं, गणों के अधिपति हैं। जो मुक्त हस्त से दान देते हैं और साथ ही दुष्टों का संहार करने में प्रचंड हैं — उन भूतनाथ शिव की मैं नित्य उपासना करता हूँ।
जो गीतों के अधिपति हैं, जिनका स्वरूप दुर्गम व गूढ़ है। जिनके कंठ में रूंडमाल (खोपड़ी की माला) से टंकार की भयानक ध्वनि होती है। जो भ्रम रूप में विचरण करते हुए भैरवरूप में क्षेत्रपाल हैं — उन भैरवस्वरूप भूतनाथ को मैं बारंबार प्रणाम करता हूँ।
जो त्रिशूलधारी हैं, संहार करने वाले हैं, गिरिजा के स्वामी हैं। जो पार्वतीपति, मायापति, शुभ्रवर्णधारी और महेश्वर हैं। कैलाशपति, सतीजी के जीवनस्वरूप हैं, महाकाल व कालों के भी स्वामी हैं। जिनके मस्तक पर अर्धचन्द्र सुशोभित है — उन शिव भूतनाथ की मैं आराधना करता हूँ।
जिनका कंठ नील है, जो सच्चिदानंद स्वरूप हैं — उन्हें बारंबार प्रणाम। जो यक्षरूपधारी, जटाधारी, नागों के अधिपति हैं — उन्हें बारंबार नमस्कार। जो त्रिनेत्रधारी हैं, गंगाधर हैं, इंद्र जैसे रत्नों से भी अलंकृत हैं और जिनके शीश पर अर्धचन्द्र शोभायमान है — उन सदा शिव भूतनाथ को मैं शरणागत होकर भजता हूँ।
The Bhutanathashtakam is a deeply devotional hymn praising Lord Shiva in His majestic Tandava form, as Bhairava—the Lord of all beings—and as the embodiment of pure consciousness and divine bliss. It beautifully brings together the compassion concealed within His fierce form, the profound stillness present within His cosmic dance and the divine radiance expressed through His sacred ash-covered form. According to Hindu spiritual tradition, its recitation guides the seeker towards fearlessness, devotion and the knowledge of Brahman.

I worship Lord Shiva, the Supreme Lord of Shakti and the embodiment of auspiciousness, who remains absorbed in an eternally renewed Tandava. The resonance of His cosmic dance echoes like the thunder of dense and turbulent storm clouds. I repeatedly adore Lord Bhutanatha, whose divine form is adorned with sacred ash.

I bow repeatedly to Lord Bhutanatha, who is the very embodiment of Kala, eternal time. His form is profound and formidable like the surging waves of a mighty ocean. The sacred sound of His Damaru reverberates throughout the universe with the rhythm of “Dama-Dama.” He is the powerful Lord of all beings and the Supreme Lord worshipped by the Devas.
Rama Rama Ramabhaktam Ramesham Ram Raravam Mama Mama Muktahastam Mahesham Mam Madhuram.
I repeatedly worship Lord Maheshwara, whose sacred form is adorned with ash. He is devoted to Lord Shri Rama and remains immersed in the divine name of Rama. He is infinitely generous, freely bestows blessings upon His devotees and possesses a compassionate and gentle nature. He is the embodiment of Brahman, manifests as Lord Vamadeva and brings dissolution to the universe at the appointed time.
I worship Lord Shiva, who is dear to Lord Hari and removes the three forms of suffering—Adhyatmika, Adhibhautika and Adhidaivika. He is an ocean of forgiveness and compassionately accepts even those burdened by wrongdoing when they sincerely seek refuge in Him. He is the embodiment of meditation and, through His Saguna form, sustains and protects all beings.
I continually worship Lord Bhutanatha, who destroys the burden of sin and shines as the blazing light of divine consciousness. He is the profound and hidden spiritual Reality, Lord Girisha and the master of the Ganas. His hand is ever open in generosity towards devotees, yet He remains fierce and powerful in the destruction of unrighteousness.
I repeatedly bow to Lord Bhutanatha in His sacred Bhairava form. He is the Lord of divine music, yet His true nature is subtle, profound and difficult to comprehend. A garland of skulls adorns His neck, producing a formidable symbolic resonance. As Lord Bhairava, He moves through the mysterious realms of existence and protects sacred places as Kshetrapala, the divine guardian.
I worship Lord Shiva, the Trishul-bearing Lord who brings dissolution and is the beloved Lord of Goddess Girija. He is the divine consort of Goddess Parvati, the master of Maya, radiant in His pure and luminous form and revered as Maheshwara. He is the Lord of Mount Kailash, the very life of Goddess Sati, Mahakala and the Supreme Lord even over time itself. The crescent moon shines like a sacred crown upon His head, and I adore Him as Lord Bhutanatha.

Repeated salutations to Lord Nilakantha, the embodiment of eternal Truth and Lord Sadashiva. Repeated salutations to Him who assumes the mysterious form of a Yaksha, bears sacred matted locks and is adorned with divine serpents. Salutations to the Three-Eyed Lord, the bearer of the Divine Ganga, who is adorned with celestial splendour. With complete surrender, I worship Lord Shiva as Bhutanatha, upon whose sacred head the crescent moon shines like a radiant crown.
